Luke fires his proton torpedoes right into the exhaust port perfectly, destroying the space station. Unexpectedly Han Solo and Chewbacca appear in the Millennium Falcon, who shoot down one of Vader's wingmen, resulting in the other one clipping Vader and sending him spinning away while trying to protect him. Afterwards, Biggs is killed by Darth Vader, leaving Luke alone in the trench to complete the run as the Death Star prepares to fire on Yavin 4. When Luke leads him and Biggs Darklighter to the Death Star's trench with Darth Vader and two TIE fighters following behind them on the final attempt to get their proton torpedoes into the thermal exhaust port before the Death Star could destroy Yavin 4 with its superlaser, Wedge's X-wing is damaged by one of Vader's wingmen and is forced to abort the run, leaving Luke and Biggs in the trench. When Luke was having a difficult time evading a TIE fighter on his tail, he swooped in to destroy it, for which Luke thanks him. ![]() He manages to destroy several turrets during the initial attack to clear the way for the Y-wings to make their bombing run. ![]() Wedge was astounded at the size of the space station, before being silenced by his wing commander, Red Leader Garven Dreis. ![]() He boards on his X-wing as he and the other Rebel forces approach the Death Star. (In this scene only, he is portrayed by actor Colin Higgins.) Utilizing a digital scan of an original X-wing helmet in the Lucasfilm archive and an actual APH-6B helmet, castings of an original visor and chin cup, eFX’s engineers, model-makers and artists painstakingly constructed the master patterns to produce this prop replica.Wedge was first seen in Yavin 4 listening to General Dodonna's mission to destroy the Death Star by destroying its main reactor using proton torpedoes to fire into a small exhaust port to which he says it was impossible even with a computer, for which Luke Skywalker corrects him. The eFX X-wing pilot helmet is a faithful recreation of the iconic helmet that Wedge Antilles wore in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back of the exciting battles of the Star Wars saga. This is the same headset that Luke and Han wore when fighting the TIE Fighters in their escape from the Death Star.As with the microphone for Luke’s X-wing pilot helmet, the tip of the microphone was lost in the interim between ANH and ESB. The microphone is from a Racal Minilite headset. Upon assembly, a strip of ABS was added to hide the parting line of the two halves. The helmet was then cast in halves to make the master pattern and the X-wing pilot helmets were then vacuum formed from these patterns. A ridge was also added over the top from front to back. This helmet included the dual visor cover. The original helmet was made from an APH-6B Vietnam era flight helmet used by the US Navy, circa 1969. And then in the final Battle of Endor in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, he was promoted to Red Leader and destroyed the second Death Star with Lando Calrissian, who was flying the Millennium Falcon. ![]() Wedge was assigned the wing position of Red Two and flew his X-wing starfighter in the Battle of Yavin against the Empire’s mightiest weapon, the Death Star in Episode IV: A New Hope, He was one of the leaders of the Rogue Squadron against the Empire’s AT-AT’s in the Battle on Hoth in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Wedge Antilles is one of the few pilots of the Rebel Alliance who not only fought, but survived all 3 of the epic battles of the original trilogy of the Star Wars saga.
